Math Modeling Across Grade Levels

Join us for an engaging, hands-on workshop at the Math It Up Conference, where educators will explore mathematical modeling across various grade levels. Mathematical modeling is a dynamic process that connects mathematics to real-world problems, allowing students to create abstract representations, analyze complex situations, and derive meaningful solutions. This workshop will demonstrate how modeling not only builds critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills but also promotes interdisciplinary learning and equity in the classroom by drawing on students’ lived experiences.

Through interactive activities, participants will delve into the iterative process of modeling, explore its application from elementary through high school, and discover strategies for integrating mathematical modeling into their curriculum. Whether you are a K-8 teacher, a high school instructor, or an instructional coach, you will leave with tools to help students deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts and see themselves as capable, confident problem-solvers in and out of the classroom.

Kristin and Ellie will have virtual opportunities every three weeks starting after March 11th to reflect on the integration of strategies discussed at the workshop and track progress in applying mathematical modeling techniques across grade levels.

Family-School Partnership Training

Created and piloted by a former school psychologist in collaboration with a former teacher, the Family-School Partnership is a family-based learning program run by four school staff to support the social and emotional development of children through engaging in conversations around topics such as connect & redirect, co-regulation, and play. The goal of the program is to promote continuity of strategies across home and school settings. Many teachers have attended workshops aligned with the No-Drama Discipline and 1-2-3 RESET principles, which will be highlighted in this partnership. The partnership includes three pre-planned evenings for school staff and interested families to engage in, along with a Google Drive to access all the needed materials. An outline of an evening includes:

    • Community Builder
    • Family Activity
    • Family Meal
    • Adult Learning Session & Child Play Session
    • Adult & Child Connection Time
    • Closure

WIDA Workshop Teacher Leaders: Planning with the ELD Standards Framework

Hybrid Workshop (Webinar, Workshop, Online Resources)

MAY 18 WEBINAR and

APRIL 1 IN-PERSON AT CESA 3

DPI requires all districts to implement the WIDA ELD Standards. This hybrid workshop is all about the ELD standards. The workshop consists of one virtual session (60 minutes) and one in-person session (approximately 8 hours). The workshop is intended for teacher leaders (i.e., ML teachers/coordinators who are responsible for implementing the standards and teaching others to use them) and, ideally, attendees would have some familiarity with the standards. Please plan to attend this two part professional development to help your staff understand and implement the standards in their classrooms.

Learning Goals
• Integrate content and language learning by
• researching the architecture of a content unit (pre-workshop tasks)
• setting unit language goals through unit and text analysis
• identifying how Language Functions and Language Features help students convey meaning more effectively in content learning.
• Prepare to support other educators in using the WIDA ELD Standards Framework in their local contexts.

Participation Requirements
• Complete pre-work (1 hour)
• Participate in the introductory webinar (1 hour)
• Participate in the one-day, in-person workshop

Optional Follow-up
• Participants will have access to resources and optional self-paced learning activities (1–2 hours) to build their
own knowledge and messaging around the use of the WIDA ELD Standards Framework.
• Attendees who complete the workshop will receive an invitation to join a consortium-wide pilot community of
practice with quarterly activities and collaborative online discussions.
