ELA Showcase 2025

English/Language Arts teachers from SW Wisconsin can join together on this day to share resources and ideas.  Grades 6-12 are welcome!  The morning will be for sharing lessons, units, and ideas from your practice that might help other teachers.  Depending on enrollment, teachers will get 15-20 minutes to share.  Just having a question and starting a “solution discussion” is fine, too!  The afternoon will start with a presentation of the latest young adult lit recommendations, followed by a discussion of MS/HS literacy topics.  Join us for a great day of talking and learning from English teachers from your neighboring schools!

Getting Things Done for Educators

What would you do with an extra 40 minutes a day?

40 minutes is what the employees of one organization gained on average after implementing the Getting Things Done methodology.

Over the course of three half-day virtual sessions, you will:

  • discover how personal productivity can translate into less stress,
  • learn how to maximize more available time during the day, and
  • leverage this system to positively influence teaching and learning.

These skills can benefit everyone. Research shows that when just one or two team members make even small fumbles (missed deadlines, working on the wrong priorities, or forgetting tasks), team productivity is cut by an average of 24%.

On the other hand, teams that have a shared process for managing workflow foster trust, engagement, and efficient execution.

Join us for a highly engaging learning experience, all from your computer during the work day.

Objectives: By the end of this experience, you will be able to:

  • Use the methodology to achieve the ideal productive state.
  • Capture everything in and out of your head.
  • Direct your inputs to a few chosen capture tools.
  • Decide what your stuff means to you.
  • Identify next actions to get moving and overcome procrastination.
  • Process the items in your inboxes regularly and effectively to avoid fatigue and backlog.
  • Utilize your calendar more effectively to free up more time.
  • Optimize your lists to transform the way you work.
  • Use your system to take appropriate action with confidence.
  • Say no with integrity.
  • Review your system weekly so it’s always current.
  • Make key connections between short-term tasks and longer-term goals.

Common Questions:

“I don’t have time for this training.”

The fact that you feel you don’t have time for this training should tell you that you need this training even more.

“This training is too expensive.”

How much is your time worth per hour? Even if you only recapture one hour per week from this training, the cost recovery will happen quickly.

“I’ve tried similar approaches – they didn’t work.”

In addition to the trainings, participants will have access to three follow-up productivity labs for group coaching and support during the school year.

“I’m not sure this is right for me.”

This training was provided last year for all CESA coaches and consultants. We experienced an 82% improvement in keeping our email inboxes at zero or single digits, as well as having a trusted system and place for important messages.

Testimonials:

“I was a little skeptical at first, but my inbox is under 200 for the first time in years. Projects are flying off my to-do list.”

– Molly Kasten, Superintendent, Weston School District

“Matt connected real-world situations to the Getting Things Done methodology, and shared his own personal experiences.”

– Lauretta Pickel, Director of Business Services, Weston School District
